How Can This Therapy Help Me?

Obsessive compulsive disorder or (OCD) as it’s most referred to, is a chronic and often, a long-lasting mental health disorder. A person can appear to have uncontrollable, unwanted thoughts, feelings and behaviours.

They are described as obsessions and compulsions, with an urge to repeat over and over again. What can often drive these thoughts is a fear that someone, usually a family member or someone we are close to, will be harmed, if we don’t carry out these rituals.

OCD is extremely common, with more than one million cases reported per year in the UK alone.

Why Should You Consider Seeking Therapy?

OCD can be so debilitating, it can seriously affect our day to day living, which can lead to depression, anxiety and self-harm. It is common for people to use alcohol, or drugs to finds ways to help emotionally numb the level of anxiety that OCD can create.

Asking someone to suddenly stop the compulsions or obsessions, can be so anxiety provoking and terrifying, is a bit like asking someone to stand infront of a 50-tonne lorry driving towards us at high speed and not being able move out of the way.

A combination of Psychotherapy, Hypnotherapy and the cognitive therapies, can be extremely effective in the treatment of OCD.

THERAPY FOR OBSESSIVE COMPULSIVE DISORDER

“To resist a compulsion with willpower alone is to hold back an avalanche by melting the snow with a candle. It just keeps coming and coming and coming.”
